Beneath the Sea 2004 Seminar |
 |
My newest UW photography class, Perfect
Pictures
Everytime will premier at Beneath the Sea 2004.
Now in it's 28th year, Beneath the Sea is America's
largest consumer scuba and dive travel show. It is held
at the Meadowlands Expo Center in New Jersey on the
last weekend in March every year.
Perfect Pictures Everytime will concentrate on the
secrets of capturing the perfect underwater
photograph in any situation. Great for beginners and
advanced photographers, this seminar concentrates on
the equipment and techniques necessary to do so. You
will learn which lens works best for each situation, black
and white film vs. color film, lighting, composition and
special effects.

OWU 2004 Film Festival |
 |
One of my favorite Christmas presents I received this
year was a call from my friend Carolyn congratulating
me on the acceptance of Sandfloor Cathedral to Our
World Underwater's Film Festival this April 24, 2004.
Our World- Underwater is the largest show of it's kind in
the
Midwest, and the oldest of its kind anywhere. Divers
and non divers alike come from all over the world to
take advantage of the informative seminars, new
product information and numerous travel opportunities.
In addition to participating in Saturday evening's film
festival, I will be presenting a seminar about the
Humpback Whales of the Silver Banks and the Magical
Encounters in the Sea of Cortez.

Whales of the Silver Bank |
 |
The seas were a bit rough as we headed into the wind
and away from the Bottom Time 2, our home for the
week on the Silver Bank. The RIB was perfect for this
sort of thing, that is, being able to get in and out of the
water quickly. Wade has spotted a group of whales in
the distance and we were setting up for the intercept.
Finally those perfect four words were spoken," get your
gear ready". It was. I slipped into the silky blue Atlantic
and saw before me a mother and baby Humpback
Whale, coming right at me. This is why I have come to
the Dominican Republic, to swim with whales. It is the
sort of "once in a lifetime" experience that I enjoy
repeating every year.

Darkroom Dictionary |
 |
|
Burning in is the darkroom technique of
making a selected part of a print darker. This is
accomplished by giving a predetermined additional
exposure to that selected part of the print. This is an
important aspect of the creative process in the
darkroom. It can bring interesting details, create a
sense of drama, and alter the mood of the image.
Dodging is the darkroom technique of
decreasing the
amount of light exposing a selected part of a print. This
is an important creative tool that allows you to bring
out shadow detail.
